WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. John Murtha, an influential critic of the Iraq War whose congressional career was shadowed by questions about his ethics, died Monday. He was 77.
I posted this in "debates" because Rep. Murtha became a lightning rod for his stance against the war in Iraq. Murtha was a decorated Marine veteran of the Vietnam war, earning a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. In 2002 he voted to authorize President Bush to use military force in Iraq, only to become critical of the Iraq war in 2005.

George Stephanopolis (or however you spell it), got teary eyed this morning about the passing of Mr. Murtha. He said he was one of the men on Capital Hill who made it work.
